Having studied with Alfred Cortot, Arthur Honegger and Olivier Messiaen at the Paris Conservatoire and have participated in the adventure of serialism, as it is with passion alongside Pierre Henry and Pierre Schaeffer, Luc Ferrari is committed from 1957 in the exploration of "concrete music" led the Groupe de Recherches Musicales. Very quickly, he will question the orthodoxy of concrete sounds, the benefit of his invention of concepts such as "music anecdotal, " and "soundscape ". Playing with overlays and telescoping sound images taken from life, he shocked the world of contemporary music by bringing it in, daily life and not only social but also - which seemed quite incongruous in the context of art music - the intimate.
This film shows the personality of this composer eminently libertarian : its spontaneity, its inclination to the hedonism and sensuality, his curious character, his rejection of any power and any stable position vis-à-vis institutions, taste pronounced for the game, his sense of self-depreciation and fierce rejection of dogmatism. It includes a number of sequences shot in La Chaux de Fonds with the musicians of the Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain and the location of its visual and sound installation "The Cycle of Memories" at the Museum of Fine Arts of the City -. This film tries to capture the spirit of this prolific creator who is also welcoming young artists. Thus we see together, among others, the young musician "electro" eRikm and the creator of sound sculpture Christof Schlaeger.
